James Tedesco try-saver of the year, Penrith Panthers beat Sydney Roosters, scores, video highlights, results

Sydney Roosters skipper James Tedesco has earned praise for what was deemed the “try-saver of the year” in his side’s gallant display against the reigning premiers.

Tedesco’s incredible defensive effort was symbolic of the gallant Roosters’ performance against the Penrith Panthers and came in the first half of the 26-18 loss.

Isaah Yeo received the ball from Nathan Cleary and created an opening in the Roosters’ defence with a brilliant pass fake, looking like a certainty to score before the break.

The Panthers’ No.13 cruised past three different Roosters defenders, leaving only Tedesco to beat on the tryline before the Roosters skipper stopped him in his tracks with an unbelievable tackle.

It was a play that left Nine’s NRL commentary team absolutely stunned.

“That might be the most fascinating one minute of defence I’ve ever seen,” league icon Phil Gould said

“That was incredible.”

“What about his try-saving tackle on Isaah Yeo? Just unbelievable,” ex-Storm skipper Cameron Smith added. “He kept his side in the match all night.”

“What? That is the try-saver of the year!” said stunned lead commentator Mat Thompson.

“He (Yeo) looked like he was going to put it over the line and celebrate with the hill. Unbelievable defence by Tedesco.”

Unfortunately for Tedesco his play was not enough to lift the Roosters to a memorable win, with Penrith recording its 15th victory in 16 matches this season.
