The Warriors mounted an unlikely second-half comeback but ultimately they gave Souths too much of a start, with the Rabbitohs hanging on to win 32-30.
Neither side will be especially happy with this result, the Warriors slumping to their fourth loss in five matches, while Souths won’t be pleased at having a 26-0 lead trimmed to a two-point margin at full-time.
Shaun Johnson attempted an unlikely 53-metre field goal as the full-time siren sounded, that kick was charged down and the Rabbitohs hung on.
“I thought we were near perfect in the first half,” Souths’ Cody Walker told Fox League.
“Pretty one-out in the second half, made errors, tried to offload too much, finished our sets in different positions.
“It just felt like they had more energy than us in the second half.”
