NRL news 2022, Gold Coast Titans vs North Queensland Cowboys result, AJ Brimson interview, video, score

By Simon Brunsdon, Zachary Gates

A downcast Gold Coast star AJ Brimson lamented his side’s “weak” performance as the Titans’ season sunk to a new low at Cbus Super Stadium.

Playing against an undermanned North Queensland outfit missing four State of Origin representatives, the Titans were steamrolled in the second half to lose 32-6 at home.

They had a glut of attacking ball in the early stages of the game, and were in the fight at 16-6 at half-time, but were no match for the Cowboys in the second stanza.

Speaking on Nine after the game, Brimson was clearly livid with the performance.

“It’s weak. I think it’s pretty obvious we can’t play for 80 minutes,” Brimson told Johnathan Thurston.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that we’re weak at the moment, and we’ve been weak as of late.

“It’s just not good enough. It’s quite embarrassing, to be honest.”

Gold Coast now sits 15th on the ladder with only three wins from 13 games, despite being tipped as a big improver in 2022.

Coach Justin Holbrook took exception with the suggestion he was prepared to put a line through this season.

“We know we’re miles off. But we keep working at it and (hopefully) string some wins together,” Holbrook said.

To make matters worse for the Titans, livewire fullback Jayden Campbell injured his hamstring during the loss.

League legend Andrew Johns fears for Gold Coast’s season with Campbell sidelined.

“They are shot now. He’s the only one who sparks them,” Johns told Nine.

“At the moment they are just treading water, really struggling for creativity in attack. He’s the only one that provides any spark.

“They score one try tonight in the 16th minute and didn’t look like scoring again… it’s going to be a tough period with Campbell not there.”

The Titans will take on the Rabbitohs next Saturday.
